Privacy fears don't deter Google users

A PEW survey in the US has found that Google is still the favourite search engine.

Despite concerns about data-collection, some advertising and privacy, 83 percent of search engine users said they preferred Google to any other search engine; up from 47 percent in 2004.

Yahoo's search engine ranked a distant second at six percent.

Ratings personnel found that while Google has the dominant position, it may be risking its popularity by fishing for information about users to satisfy advertisers, who wish to tailor their marketing to suit individual interests.

Nearly 75% of Google and other search engine users said they did not want their personal information sifted through.
