In one?s journey through Coconut Grove, there comes a time when one must venture off the beaten paths of Commodore Plaza, Grand Avenue and Main Highway to discover something truly amazing. This is where making the trip to The Grove Spot comes in.
For over two years, The Grove Spot has been nestled away on Virginia Street, right across the street from the Mayfair Hotel and Spa, making it this vibrant neighborhood?s best-kept secret. Bright orange awnings and a breezy outdoor dining area mark its presence.?The interior of The Grove Spot is one of relaxed comfort with wooden tables, plush high booths, a fully stocked bar and an antique unfinished piano. Friendly service and all-American vintage music makes it perfect place to be for a quiet brunch or to unwind after a long day?s work.
As one who could eat breakfast fare long after the sun sets, I am happy to report that The Grove Spot makes it a point to serve breakfast from open to closing. To try its best, I recommend The Kiwi?s Wake-Up, which includes one sunny-side up egg, a banger (American translation: sausage) and their signature Grove Spot potatoes with your choice of toast and saut?ed onions and tomatoes. Aside from being a filling wake-up indeed, the banger, paired with the mild softness of the egg, is nothing short of heavenly. I also appreciate how the Grove Spot potatoes lived up to their reputation of being a stellar accompaniment to with scallions and smoked bacon bits adding a savory kick to what is often an afterthought in breakfast fare.
For those who aren?t too keen on eating eggs after 10 a.m., fear not as the Grove Spot has plenty of menu options, including an array of hot and cold deli sandwiches, entr?e platters such as chicken fajitas and beef tenderloin, and classic pasta dishes ready to satisfy one?s taste for comfort food.
Yes, folks, there is certainly life beyond the Coconut Grove Post Office. It may take a few extra paces to get there, but a visit to The Grove Spot is certainly worth the detour.
