Live from Sony's PlayStation press event at E3 2012

12 hrs.

The last big press event of the day belongs to Sony, and we expect them to fight the spreading menace of Microsoft and the new hardware of Nintendo with a bevy of solid gamer-type games. Uncharted, Twisted Metal, all that good stuff. They should be going live at 6PM Pacific time.

5:50 - After a refreshing drink and dine outside, we're waiting and watching on-stage players play Vita games. Thrilling!

5:56 - As you can see, it's another intimate gathering, this one was invite only, and the location is top secret so don't try to find it. The lady on the overhead tells us we will begin on time at 6.

6:01 - We are beginning. Thanks to our valiant Vita players who braved the jibes of the crowd so bravely. Here we have a little montage of Sony games... and yet more dubstep.

6:05 - Jack Tretton is onstage hyping up the crowd, which is responding loudly, even the press area. Especially the press area. Talking about how it's so relaxing to host an event like this because every E3 gets picked apart by commenters and forum-goers for months afterward. But seriously, he says, we love you people, and gamers are the greatest. Never Stop Playing, he says.

6:09 - David Cage, creator of Heavy Rain, is here to unveil a new game - and a new IP. An emotional experience. Called Beyond - Two Souls. And it appears to be about death. Spans 15 years of a girl's life who has a supernatural connection. Ellen Page will be playing the girl. Interesting shot of her with her facial motion capture.

6:13 - Scene from the game - slight uncanny valley territory. We'll post the trailer soon, I'm sure. Only on PS3, my friend.

6:20 - Now, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, in which famous characters from franchises battle it out. Why Kratos wouldn't kill everyone I do not understand. They're going to give a nice little live demo - after they announce that it will be coming to Vita with cross-platform play. That should be fun.?

6:23 - Where have I seen a hovering, pink-dressed princess before? Maybe it's just my imagination.

6:29 -?LittleBigPlanet will be getting special tools and controls using the Vita - useful for making stuff in the game, or playing multiplayer.

6:30 - PSN is getting a boost here - Tretton is promising to push it more, get more exclusive games on it, more indie stuff. Over 200 games coming out on PSN this year. And PlayStation Plus will be getting a bunch of free games - you can just plain download 'em.

6:32 - E3's first Oprah moment! Everyone here is getting a free year of Playstation Plus! Woo! And Vita is getting a bunch of original PS games. Can't wait to load up my Vita with Final Fantasy VIII. That's right.

6:35 - Call of Duty Black Ops: Unclassified is coming to Vita. Aaand some kind of micro Assassin's Creed 3? Yes, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation with first-ever female assassin! Also comes with first-ever 'crystal white' Vita.

6:39 - Oooh, Assassin's Creed on boats! This is going to be great. Oh man, this looks awesome. Cannons and ship-boarding and everything.

6:45 - 4-player co-op in Far Cry 3 on PS3. Pssh, I was playing 64-player in Tribes in like 1998. This kind of co op looks fun - mayhem.

6:49 - "Move"ing on to the Move. Head of this team is hard at work on something new, based on... of all things, the book. Let's take a look... in a Wonderbook. Looks like a big old platform for augmented reality tech. A book that shows crazy things on it, on your TV at least. Hard to explain.

6:54 - J.K. Rowling has contributed a book, or at least collaborated on one, called the Book of Spells. Lets you cast spells as you read - could be very fun for young Potter fans. Here comes the demo. Very nice little art direction - kids will love swinging a wand around, accidentally setting their book on fire, watching little plays, etc. Some minor presentations as they fail to open a door... but it works out in the end.

7:05 - Playstation Suite on Android getting some talk here. Bringing PlayStation certified to other phones - first, HTC. Probably the One S and One X. Oh, and PlayStation Suite is now Playstation Mobile - probably a good move.

7:08 - And here we have some God of War Ascension action. He is fighting a Ram-Man. No, many of them. Lots of horns being pulled off. Comically brutal.

7:11 - Release the Kraken!?Kraken fight. And now a fight with an Elephant-Man. Worst vacation ever. In case you're wondering, it looks a lot like God of War. But it does look very nice, that's for sure. Comes out March 12, 2013. That is a very long time from now.

7:17 - Animal noises, and a man in a shiny red jacket standing a foot away from me. What does it mean? Oh - The Last of Us demo. The crowd goes wild. It looks great. Very tense. Love the constant dialog between the dad and the kid. This game is going to be great. Looks really, really brutal, though. The crowd is going nuts.

And that's it! Thanks for tuning in.
